Moov Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
1. Who we are
Moov is run by Moovhome Ltd, company number 17467720, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ. We are the "controller" of your personal data, which means we decide how and why it is used.
We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number CSN1426074.
Questions about your data: privacy@moovhome.co.uk
This policy covers the Moov app, moovhome.co.uk, and the Moov community groups we run.
2. The short version
- We collect what we need to match you with rooms and flatmates, and to keep Moov safe.
- Some of it is shown to other users, because that's how matching works. We tell you below exactly what.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising trackers in the app.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
3. What we collect
Account details
- Name, email address, and password (stored encrypted). If you sign in with Apple or Google, we get your name, email, and an account identifier from them. With Apple you can hide your email.
Your profile (shown to other users)
- Photos, first name, age, gender, occupation, a short bio, lifestyle tags (for example early riser, smoker or non-smoker, pets)
- Your Instagram handle, if you choose to add it
What you're looking for
- Budget, areas, move-in dates, how long you want to stay, and the type of room and household you'd like
- Your preferences for flatmates, which can include gender and age range. See our Flatmate Preferences policy.
If you're a host: your listings (shown to other users)
- Rent, bills, photos, room and property details, the nearest station and walking time, house rules, and availability
- Details about who already lives there, such as your current flatmates' gender and age, if you add them. You're responsible for having their agreement first, and you shouldn't add their names or photos.
- Whether the household describes itself as LGBTQ+ friendly, if you choose to say so
- If you live in the property, your own age, gender and occupation, because renters would be living with you
Activity on Moov
- Who you like, pass on and match with, and your messages with matches
- Reports and blocks you make, or that are made about you
Device and technical data
- A push notification token, so we can tell you about new matches and messages
- Basic technical logs our hosting providers keep to run and secure the service (for example, IP address and timestamps)
What we don't collect
- Your precise location. Moov doesn't use your phone's GPS. Maps in the app show a listing's area, not where you are.
- Advertising identifiers. We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Our website doesn't use cookies or analytics.
4. Why we use it, and our legal basis
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Create your account, show your profile and listings, match you and let you message | Contract: it's the service you signed up for |
| Use your preferences (including gender and age) to decide who you see and who sees you | Contract, and your choice to set them |
| Keep Moov safe: review reports, block users, spot fake accounts and scams | Legitimate interests in keeping users safe, and legal obligation under the Online Safety Act 2023 |
| Confirm you are 18 or over, which you tell us when you sign up | Contract: Moov is only for adults |
| Send you notifications and service emails | Contract and legitimate interests |
| Send you news or marketing | Consent. You can opt out any time. |
| Deal with legal claims and follow the law | Legal obligation and legitimate interests |
Sensitive information. Some things you might choose to share, for example that your household is LGBTQ+ friendly, could reveal information about sexual orientation. It is always optional. We only show it if you actively turn it on and confirm you're happy for it to appear on your listing, which is your explicit consent. You can turn it off at any time, and it disappears straight away.
5. Who can see your data
Other Moov users can see your profile or listing, as described in section 3. Your messages are only visible to the person you are talking to, and to our team if a conversation is reported.
Service providers who help us run Moov, and who can only use your data on our instructions:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, file storage, login | Data held in London (UK) |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, push notifications, App Store | USA / global |
| Sign in with Google | USA / global | |
| Resend | Sending service emails | USA |
| Vercel | Hosting our website | USA / global |
Others, only when needed: the police, courts or regulators where the law requires it or to protect someone's safety, and a buyer if Moovhome Ltd is ever sold (they would have to follow this policy).
We never sell your data.
6. International transfers
Your Moov data is stored in London. Some providers above are based in, or may access data from, the USA or elsewhere. When that happens we rely on UK government "adequacy" decisions (including the UK-US Data Bridge) or on the ICO's approved contract clauses, to make sure your data stays protected.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account, profile, listings, matches and messages | Until you delete your account. Then deleted straight away. |
| A conversation after either of you unmatches | Hidden from both of you straight away. Kept for 90 days in case either of you reports it, then deleted. |
| Backups | Overwritten within a limited period, after which they are deleted |
| Reports and moderation records | 12 months after the report is closed, so we can spot repeat offenders and deal with appeals. Longer if needed for a legal claim or police request. |
| Records of banned accounts | As long as needed to stop the person coming back, kept to the minimum (for example an email and a note of why) |
If your account is inactive for 2 years, we may delete it after emailing you first.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the data we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong (most of it you can edit in the app)
- delete your data (use Profile > Delete account, or email us)
- object to us using your data based on legitimate interests
- restrict how we use it while a concern is sorted out
- take your data with you in a common format
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it
Email privacy@moovhome.co.uk. We will reply within one month. It's free.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
9. Keeping your data safe
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access inside Moov is limited to what each person needs, and database rules stop users seeing each other's private data. No system is perfect, so if something goes wrong we will tell you and the ICO where the law requires.
10. Children
Moov is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think a child is using Moov, please tell us and we will remove the account.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
